Swansea University is part of the Santander Universities network, an international group of universities with three similar goals in common: internationalisation, transfer of knowledge, and fostering of entrepreneurial skills. The agreement signed in September 2013 will stimulate collaborations and partnerships between the University of Aberdeen and universities and organisations within the worldwide network, including work placements and exchange programmes for students and staff.
Through its Santander Universities Global Division, Santander has collaborated with universities for more than 15 years. The bank supports the Higher Education sector in such areas as teaching and research, international cooperation, knowledge and technology transfer, entrepreneurial initiatives, student mobility and innovation. This is a network where universities from all over the world can meet and engage in dialogue.
Santander Universities has partnerships with universities in 20 countries: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Ghana, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, United Arab Emirates, UK, Uruguay, and USA.
Santander Universities was introduced in the UK in 2007 and the bank is now collaborating with fifty-seven British Universities and Higher Education Institutions, with agreements focused on promoting international exchange, entrepreneurial activities and the mobility of students and researchers within the network. Santander Universities began its activity in Spain in 1997 with one main objective: to support higher education. Since then it has donated over £500 million in the shape of scholarships, travel grants, support to special projects, academic and non-academic awards.
Competition open to all students with a viable business idea each year at the end of March ideas are judged and 5 student businesses will be asked to present their ideas – The top three will be awarded a £1000 Bursary – To enter please email idea to email@example.com.
Each Year, eight £250 bursaries will be available to students who come up with a project or venture creation idea that either benefits the community or is profit making – Interested parties should email firstname.lastname@example.org.
